院長が最もお世話になった臨床家R. M. Rickettsは、 生前およそ70の生物学原理がBioprogressiveにはあるだろうと話されましたが、残念ながら散逸してしまい、現在は目にする機会がありません。

老いなき世界(『Life Span ̶ Why We Age, and Why We Don’t Have To』David A.
Sinclair 著)の七章 、医療におけるイノベーションは「個人に特化した精密医療へ」からはじま る。 これを矯正歯科に当てはめると、昨今世間様を騒がしている歯並び治療と、それとは別個に未来 の可能性あふれる治療の違いが鮮明になる。 ということで、貴金属のラビオリンガルシステムの一環として、筆者の多用しているリンガル装置 の一部を紹介する。 じつは、3次元スキャンと立体プリンターは、この装置の製作には、まったくといっていいほ ど、向かない。従来のアルジネート印象と、精密なバンド技術がどうしても必要であるからだ。 バンドは、(1)予備のストックのほか、(2)仮着用と(3)プリウェルド用の3種類を用意する。歯 には大きさや形の相違があるので、(2)、(3)あわせて1000個くらい成形したものを事前に用意 する。 初日の歯間部のセパレート後に、バンドトライ、印象、仮着、作業模型の製作までを2回目に行う。 スライドはそこからの過程・・・完全に「個人に特化した精密医療へ」の段階である。 一連の作業によって、皮質骨固定、8 歳前なら正中口蓋縫合の拡大、舌側傾斜した下顎第2大臼歯 の頬側や遠心へのアップライト等々が可能となる。
なによりも成人矯正では、Biprogressive therapyの核心ともいえる、Sequential treatment が、患者さんも術者も負担が最小限で実現する。

R セミナー研修会 2019

◎ 本セミナーの目指すところは、最大非侵襲の医療、患者と医療者双方の負担軽減、最大成果の実現です。知識だけではなく、生物学原理の統合的な体得がその礎（いしずえ）となります。
◎「講座（日曜日）」は、アリゾナ州スコッツデールの Ricketts２週間セミナーに準じて進められます。
◎「基幹技能（月曜日）」は、時代の要請とともに変わる診療所の運営スタイル、診断・予後の予測・治療計画の立案・モニタリング、各種装置の製作ならびに調整の実習を行います。
◎ バイオプログレッシブでは、個別化された安全な治療が流れるように進む特徴があります。
◎ 「Step 1,2,3」式テクニックとは概念が根本的に違い、同じ装置であっても、活用法と意図する目的はおのずと異なります。
◎ 現代の矯正歯科界で最大の貢献を果たしたR. M. Rickettsの「おおらかさ」、患者さんとのふれあいを通して彼が感得した「朗らかな一面」も、新鮮なスパイスでしょう。
◎ 一定レベルの臨床技術はたしかに大切ですが、枝葉末節的テクニックに拘泥する暇（いとま）は、臨床専門医にはありません。社会に矯正歯科臨床がどのような貢献を果たすかという広い視野に立てば、物事の軽重先後が見え、臨床も洗練化されていきます。したがって、Edward H. Angle、Allan G. Brodie、 Robert M. Rickettsへと連綿と受け継がれたこの「活力溢れる王道」を身に付けることが肝要です。
◎ 皆様には、時代の新技術や機器を駆使して、ダイナミックにご自身を高めつづけ（＝Progressionの真意）、ほんとうの豊かさ（日々のあと味の良さ）をおおいに楽しんでいただきたいと願っています。たかだか「一回の人生」ですから…。

バイオプログレッシブの創始者：Dr. R. M. Ricketts 略歴

Dr. M. Ricketts (1920-2003) was Director of the American Institute for Bioprogressive Education in Scottsdale, Arizona.

◎ Education: Graduated with honors from Indiana University School of Dentistry, 1945. Navy Dental Corps, 1945 ‒ 1947.
University of Illinois Graduate School, 1947 ‒ 1952, M.S. 1950. Instructor in Orthodontics, 1948 ‒ 1952.

◎ Honours: Second prize, American Association in Oral Surgery, 1974. Recipient of the Albert H. Ketcham Award from American Association of Orthodontics, 1975; John Mershon Lecture, 1976; Associated Journals Europe Award, 1983; Hinman Award.
◎1952 ‒ 1987 orthodontic practice in Pacific Palisades California.

◎ Main interests were growth, morphological structural variation of the face and jaws, arthritis of the jaw joint, cleft palate diagnosis and treatment from surgical, orthopedic, and prosthetic standpoints, mechanics in orthodontics. Helped develop several contemporary mechanisms in equipment now used internationally in orthodontics. Has conducted computer research since 1964; helped found Rocky Mountain Data Systems. Conducted several educational seminars yearly. Founded the American Institute for Bioprogressive Education, 1981.
◎ 1952 ‒ Chairman of Orthodontic section, American Dental Association.
◎ 1957 – 65 Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Dentistry, UCLA.
◎ 1971 ‒ Clinical Professor of Occlusion, University of Southern California School of Dentistry. Professor of Orthodontics, Loma Linda University School of Dentistry.
◎ 1987 Dr. Ricketts moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, to complete research for and writing of “Provocations and Perceptions in Cranio-Facial Orthopedics (1989)”, “The Reappearing American (1993)”, in which he entrusted his dream to the next young generations not only for the specialists but also for others.
